Safety America, Incorporated was established in 1991 by
R. L. (Bob) Tomlinson.
Bob is a retired Fire Department Captain with 26 years as a professional fire fighter. After retirement in 1992 Bob continued serving as a volunteer fire fighter and now has over 41 years experience with emergency response of all kinds. He has been an instructor for 30 of those years with previous certifications under the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, USEPA, and currently certified through USDOL Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Our other instructors are similarly qualified.
In the early years, training requests involved on-site training for emergency response to hazardous materials and contingency planning.
We soon received requests for Hazardous Waste Operations training and then RCRA training. We enlisted the services of appropriate instructors and began operating in that area as well.
With the advent of 29 CFR 1910.146 (Permit Required Confined Space Entry) we added courses to teach those entry procedures and to train confined space rescue teams.
| Now, with a history of sixteen years of operation, Safety America through a cooperative agreement with the Northeast Florida Safety Council is the primary resource in Northeast Florida for HAZWOPER training. We conduct a regular schedule of courses at their facility. | |
In our brief history we have trained for hundreds of companies. The list includes US military organizations, NASA contractors, and national and worldwide companies. But we also deal with many small contractors. Plumbers, surveyors, engineers, geologists, etc. make up a large portion of our business, especially in our open enrollment courses.
Our organization now employs four instructors and an office staff. Our organization is still growing. Student numbers increase each year with over 2,000 students per year.
Our services are primarily training, but we can also serve as record keepers in that we have complete records of all students dating back to the beginning of the company. We do respirator fit-testing, Level "A" suit re-certification, and we can assist in development of the various OSHA & EPA required programs.
