OSHA 16-Hour Incident Command for Hazardous Materials Response

Regulations require anyone who assumes control of a hazardous materials incident beyond the awareness level to be trained as an Incident Commander.  The Incident Command system is widely used to gain control of any chaotic situation.  Fires, floods, earthquakes, plane crashes, train derailments, tornadoes, hurricanes all require an informed and competent individual in charge.  Incident Commanders are not only required to have 24 hours of training equal to the Operations Level but to have additional

knowledge and skills not included in a Technician Level 24 hour course.

This course emphasizes establishing command, utilization of resources and manpower, coordinating with other public and private organizations, and gaining control of an emergency.
