OSHA 16-Hour Incident Command for
Hazardous Materials Response
Regulations
require anyone who assumes control of a hazardous materials incident
beyond the awareness level to be trained as an Incident Commander.
The Incident Command system is widely used to gain control of
any chaotic situation.
Fires, floods, earthquakes, plane crashes, train derailments,
tornadoes, hurricanes all require an informed and competent
individual in charge.
Incident Commanders are not only required to have 24 hours of
training equal to the Operations Level but to have additional

and skills not included in a Technician Level 24 hour course.
This
course emphasizes establishing command, utilization of resources and
manpower, coordinating with other public and private organizations,
and gaining control of an emergency.
